Absa Cape Epic Stage 4
Stage 4 started with a tarmac climb then descent with a further 8 or so kilometres of undulating road which Dave and i used to our advantage to move up through to the front of our group. This done, we started to catch the tail end of the group in front almost as soon as we hit the singletrack.
We just kept it steady but at tempo, knowing that the day was shorter at just 90km. We kept the pressure on and the speed high and rolled in after a short 5.5hrs. All around us people are getting sick, people are crashing and breaking bikes and more importantly, injuring themselves. Now is a time to not take risks, get through stages a day at a time and stay in one piece as there's still a long way to go.
Tomorrow is the 27km time trial stage which will come as a pleasant break to most. I am looking forward to a stage which suits my style a bit better and might afford me some actual bike racing.
